Candidates who successfully complete the Instructor Training Course and are approved by their respective MSHA District Office will be recognized as MSHA Approved Instructors. Please note that completion of the course does not gurantee Instructor approval status from MSHA

Candidates applying for MSHA Certification should have the minimum following experience and credentials:

  • Be an Experienced Miner, as defined by 30 CFR § 48.22 (b) (1)

    • A miner who has completed MSHA-approved new miner training for surface miners or training acceptable to MSHA from a State agency and who has had at least 12 months of surface mining experience

  • Possess a verifiable and relevant level of previous training experience, especially in occupational health and safety. (The training experience should have relevance to the mining industry)

  • In lieu of relevant training experience, a verifiable and relevant academic background (associates or other undergraduate degree from an accredited educational institution) in business, education, safety, organizational behavior, etc.  In addition, the applicant should possess a relevant and current certification, such as CMSP, ASSE, etc.

 

 

 

Prospective students must also have completed:

  • New Miner Training before applying for the MSHA Part 48 Instructor Certification

  • The Instructor Certification application form (in PDF Format)

  • A resume reflecting what was written on the application with contact information for experience and training given or received

  • A MIIN (Miner Individual Identification Number) (The MIIN can be applied for online: MSHA Form 5000-46)

 

Other Course Details:

·  $600 per person (includes all training days and materials)

·  Two 8-hour days with 1-hour lunch break each day

·  English only
